Generally, men who become priest describe have felt "called" by God which is why we call the priesthood a vocation (Latin vocare - to call). A potential priest has to go 4-7 years to the seminary where he is trained in prayer, academics, pastoral ministry, theology, philosophy, etc. About 6 months before he is to be ordained he is ordained to the transitional diaconate. Then he is ordained by a set of three bishops to the priesthood. Diocesan priests go to seminary for a shorter time than order priest.

Primarily it takes a vocation, which as the word implies, is a call from God. If one is called by God, and one is never sure until his ordination when the Bishop calls him up to the throne to ordain him, one usually interviews with the Vocation Director of the diocese in which he lives. The Vocation Director helps to discern if a man has a genuine call. If he thinks that there is one, the man is sent to a seminary to begin his study, and prayer. There are certain requirements. One must have been a Catholic for at least a year, not married, and confirmed in the church. Depending on what education the diocese offers he must at least have completed high school (although earlier in the church, the minor seminary began after the eighth grade); and be free of debts and other obligations. It takes a strong man to be submissive and humble to God's Will; it takes a deeply prayerful man, which will usually be developed in the seminary.

I think you mean, what is required to become a Catholic: Roman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is rarely used by the Catholic Church. That would depend entirely on your age and state in life. For a very young person, not much, just that he be baptized. For an older person, a reasoned acceptance of the Christian faith. In the later case, the person needs to speak to a priest and enroll in RCIA, which is a year long Inquirer's class to find out more about the Catholic faith.

You'll need to attend a seminary for training. Talk to your local priest. If that is not a possibility, contact the Roman Catholic Diocesan Offices nearest you.

Can a married priest become a pope?

In theory, any Catholic male can be elected pope. In practice, the election is usually done among the cardinals, and I suspect it's fairly unlikely that a married priest - who would be sort of an outsider within the Catholic community - becomes either a cardinal or a pope.
