What were the draw backs for a phalanx?

Although extremely powerful in a frontal charge, it was slow and poorly manoeuvrable. If an enemy got beside it or behind it was almost helpless. It did not operate well when moving over mountains, through forests or across uneven terrain because it was very difficult to maintain the formation that was absolutely essential to a successful phalanx attack.

Can manta rays kill you?

if they are big and you dony have inmediately attention well yes hardly!! just coz they're big doesnt mean they can hurt u! ur not allowd 2 touch them anyway. Plus they have no sting. I suppose they might get a bit freaked out if u harpoon them though... Manta rays lack a functional sting, sharp teeth, or other appendages with which to inflict injury. They are large, and may reach up to 7m across and weigh 1.5 T. However they are extremely graceful and manoeuvrable in the water, and the likelihood of a collision is very rare. By interacting with the manta responsibly, the chance of injury is minimal. See my profile for a link to more info.

What was swordfish in World War 2?

There was a Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber used by the British Royal Navy and RAF. It was a slow bi-plane but very manoeuvrable, they were responsible for the night attack on the Italian base of Taranto in 1940; 3 battleships were heavily damaged, one of them so badly it was never repaired. The following year they were responsible for damaging the German battleship Bismarck so it could be intercepted and sunk. The Swordfish was excellent as an anti-submarine aircraft and was used as such from slow escort carriers, usually carrying rocket projectiles or depth charges.

Why the Greeks won the battle of Salamis?

The Greeks lured them into two narrow straits which split them into two columns, allowing the Greek city fleets to attack them with rams from the flanks; the Greek ships were smaller and more manoeuvrable, and so had the advantage. They had also cunningly diverted a third of the Persian fleet to be sent to guard a back strait to Salamis, and so were not able to join in the battle, evening up the numbers on either side, and had pretended they were going to escape which kept the Persian crews sitting at their oars all night in a heavy swell to prevent this, and so they were exhausted the day of the battle.
