A natural resource qualifies as a renewable resource if it is replenished by natural processes at a rate comparable to its rate of consumption by humans or other users. Resources such as solar radiation, tides, and winds are perpetual resources that are in no danger of being used in excess of their long-term availability.

Natural Resources that qualify as renewable resources include oxygen, fresh water, timber, and biomass. However they can become non-renewable resources if used at a rate greater than the environment's capacity to replenish them. For example, groundwater may be removed from an aquifer at a rate greater than the sustainable recharge. Removal of water from the pore spaces may cause

Renewable resources may also include commodities such as wood, paper, and leather. Furthermore alcohol is also a renewable source of energy, similarly, oils from plants and seeds can used as even as a substitute for non-renewable diesel, last but not least methane is also considered as a renewable source of energy. Gasoline, coal, natural gas, diesel and other commodities derived from fossil fuels are non-renewable. Unlike fossil fuels, a renewable resource can have a sustainable yield.

i won't change the answer bt i am givin' u a simple and short one........

A renewable resource is one that is replaced by natural processes at a rate that is equal to or faster than its consumption. For example, the wind, the tides, and the sun, are all resources that can be utilized for their power and are in no danger of expiring; These resources will always be available, despite the consumption level. Resources such as water, timber, and geothermal energy must be intensely monitored in order to avoid over-consumption, and thus deprive the resources of their renewability.

  1. There are three types of resources in the world: renewable, non-renewable, and perpetual.

Perpetual resources are not affected by human use of them. Examples are sunlight and wind.

  2. What Does Perpetual Resource Mean?

Non-renewable resources do not replenish themselves, or, as in the case of fossil fuels, do so only at a very slow rate.

  3. What Does Non-Renewable Resource Mean?

A natural resource that can be used to benefit people and can then be replaced for other people to enjoy.

A substance of economic value that can be replaced or replenished in the same amount or less time as it takes to draw the supply down. Some renewable resources have essentially an endless supply.

Renewable resources have become a focal point of the environmental movement, both politically and economically. Energy obtained from renewable resources puts much less strain on the limited supply of fossil fuels (non-renewable resources). The problem with using renewable resources on a large scale is a cost problem and in most cases, more research is needed to make their use cost-effective.

If their levels are heavily decreased, they may not be able to completely replenish themselves

Renewable resources are endangered by industrial developments and growth. They must be carefully managed to avoid exceeding the natural world's capacity to replenish them. A life cycle assessment provides a systematic means of evaluating renewability. This is a matter of sustainability in the natural environment.

Solar radiation, tides, winds, geothermal, biomass and other natural elements are renewable resources of energy now called renewable energies.

    What is renewable energy?

In the past century, it has been seen that the consumption of non-renewable sources of energy has caused more environmental damage than any other human activity. Electricity generated from fossil fuels such as coal and crude oil has led to high concentrations of harmful gases in the atmosphere. This has in turn led to many problems being faced today such as ozone depletion and global warming. Vehicular pollution has also been a major problem.

Therefore, alternative sources of energy have become very important and relevant to today's world. These sources, such as the sun and wind, can never be exhausted and therefore are called renewable. They cause less emissions and are available locally. Their use can, to a large extent, reduce chemical, radioactive, and thermal pollution. They stand out as a viable source of clean and limitless energy. These are also known as non-conventional sources of energy. Most of the renewable sources of energy are fairly non-polluting and considered clean though biomass, a renewable source, is a major polluter indoors.

What are these alternative sources of energy?

Under the category of renewable energy or non-conventional energy are such sources as the sun, wind, water, agricultural residue, firewood, and animal dung. The non-renewable sources are the fossil fuels such as coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Energy generated from the sun is known assolar energy. Hydel is the energy derived from water. Biomass -firewood, animal dung, biodegradable waste from cities and crop residues- is a source of energy when it is burnt. Geothermal energy is derived from hot dry rocks, magma, hot water springs, natural geysers, etc. Ocean thermal is energy derived from waves and also from tidal waves.

Through the method of co-generation a cleaner and less polluting form of energy is being generated. Fuel cells are also being used as cleaner energy source. In India a number of initiatives have been taken. A good example is the model village of Ralegaon Siddhi.

When you burn a piece of wood it turns into ash. Can you use this ash to again light a fire? No, You cannot do this. This is exactly what happens to the non renewable sources of energy such as coal, natural gas and oil. Once you burn them they cannot be reused. Other than this it also causes extensive damage to the environment.

    The Advantages Of Renewable Energy

One major advantage with the use of renewable energy is that as it is renewable it is therefore sustainable and so will never run out.

Renewable energy facilities generally require less maintenance than traditional generators. Their fuel being derived from natural and available resources reduces the costs of operation.

Even more importantly, renewable energy produces little or no waste products such as carbon dioxide or other chemical pollutants, so has minimal impact on the environment.

Renewable energy projects can also bring economic benefits to many regional areas, as most projects are located away from large urban centres and suburbs of the capital cities. These economic benefits may be from the increased use of local services as well as tourism.

    The disadvantages Of Renewable Resources

It is easy to recognise the environmental advantages of utilising the alternative and renewable forms of energy but we must also be aware of the disadvantages.

One disadvantage with renewable energy is that it is difficult to generate the quantities of electricity that are as large as those produced by traditional fossil fuel generators. This may mean that we need to reduce the amount of energy we use or simply build more energy facilities. It also indicates that the best solution to our energy problems may be to have a balance of many different power sources.

Another disadvantage of renewable energy sources is the reliability of supply. Renewable energy often relies on the weather for its source of power. Hydro generators need rain to fill dams to supply flowing water. Wind turbines need wind to turn the blades, and solar collectors need clear skies and sunshine to collect heat and make electricity. When these resources are unavailable so is the capacity to make energy from them. This can be unpredictable and inconsistent. The current cost of renewable energy technology is also far in excess of traditional fossil fuel generation. This is because it is a new technology and as such has extremely large capital cost.

  4. What Does Renewable Resource Mean?

    Agricultural products

Techniques in agriculture which allow for minimal or controlled environmental damage qualify as sustainable agriculture, and it is also known as sustainable farming. Products (foods, chemicals, biofuels, etc.) from this type of agriculture may be considered "sustainable" whenprocessing, logistics, etc. also have sustainable characteristics.

    Biomass

Biomass comes from renewable organic materials such as resides from agriculture, like crops, animal waste and even human waste and industrial sectors of wood manufacture and food industries. Biomass is available everywhere, making its supply unlimited .It helps to sustain climate change, increase energy efficiency, and decrease greenhouse gas emission

    Water

Water can be considered a renewable material (also non-renewable) when carefully controlled usage, treatment, and release are followed. If not, it would become a non-renewable resource at that location. For example, groundwater is usually removed from an aquifer at a rate much greater than its very slow natural recharge, and so groundwater is considered non-renewable. Removal of water from the pore spaces may cause permanent compaction (subsidence) that cannot be renewed.

    Advantages Of Renewable Resources

A renewable resource is an energy source that uses natural, renewable processes such as sunlight, wind, moving water, and heat from beneath the earth to harness natural energy. This energy can be used to generate energy ready for human consumption. The greatest advantage of renewable resources is that they are inexhaustible. In addition, these resources have reduced or no greenhouse gas emissions during energy production. They also reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.

    Resources are Replenishable

The renewable resources are provided by Mother Nature. Unlike fossil fuels that are gradually depleting because of their nonrenewable nature, the renewable resources can be easily replenished. Wind is an inexhaustible resource, because wind is generated by the heating and cooling of the earth each day by the sun. Hydropower is the world's leading source of renewable energy. It relies on the water cycle, which consists of rain or snow, river water, groundwater, and water vapor. Thus, water on the earth is continually replenished by rain and snow. Therefore the water that is used to power turbines can be used over and over again to generate electricity.

Reduces our Dependence on Fossil Fuels

Fossil fuels are the primary sources of energy around the globe. Fossil fuels were formed from the organic remains of prehistoric plants and animals that were converted into carbon-containing fuels by geological action. Fossil fuel reserves are diminishing rapidly because of our overdependence on them. The renewable resources are beneficial in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and saving us from an imminent global scarcity of energy.

At this point, the renewable sources of energy are not fully developed to replace conventional sources of energy at a global level. Investment into research of new forms of energy by governments across the world is needed to make the replacement feasible and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels on a large scale.

    Beneficial for the Environment

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is contributing to an increase in global average temperature and related climate changes. Renewable resources produce little or no greenhouse gas emissions during energy production. Geothermal energy produces nearly 50 times less carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, and sulfur emissions than traditional fossil-fuel power plants. According to Jacqueline Langwith ("Renewable Energy") windmills and solar photovoltaic cells can help in reducing carbon dioxide emissions to a great extent. Hydropower plants also do not cause pollution, since they do not emit greenhouse gases or other pollutants during power generation.
