They actually make sugar and oxygen. Or since matter is neither created nor destroyed in ordinary chemical reactions, you could say that they merely rearrange atoms.
You plants take CO2 and H2O to make 6(CH2O) and O2. This is the equation.
CO2 + H2O --> 6(CH2O) + O2
Cellular respiration is just the opposite; sugar and oxygen are used to make carbon dioxide and water. It forms a cycle.
6(CH2O) + O2 -->CO2 + H2O
Since matter is neither created nor destroyed, you have to have the same number of atoms on both sides of the equation. Adjusting for this rule, we get the following equations
6CO2 + 6 H2O --> 6(CH2O) + 6O2 Photosynthesis
6(CH2O) +6 O2 -->6CO2 + 6 H2O cellular respiration
