It contains the iodine which was added to prevent goitre. Otherwise it is rather unhealthy.

Sodium (from sodium chloride) is indispensable for life because it is important for:
- regulation of blood pressure, pH, blood volume, osmotic pressure
- transmission of nervous impulse
- correct neurons function
