the second row, or the locks, are the very tall, muscular people of the team, a bit like swim suit models, except they dont wax there chests, have several scars, and probably have had there noses bludgeoned so many times its got an "s" shape to it, theyre legs do most of the pushing in the scrum, and are lifted often in the lineouts

in Australia the person generally accepted as the greatest prop in rugby league history is arthur "artie" beetson. a tough no nonsense prop, artie is credited with introducing the offload as a necessary skill of the front row and throwing the first punch in state of origin history (it was against his teammate from parramatta).
Prop is undoubtedly one of, if not the most important positions on the rugby field, okay maybe i am a bit biased considering i am a prop, but the unseen work is incredible and the work of props cannot be questioned considering the superstar back players wouldn't be able to function without the solid ball presented by the front row ;) -welshprop17
It is very dependant on position. A second row can be up to 6ft 10 while a scrum half is 5ft 9. Most backs are around the 5:11-6ft mark and some strike runners can be even bigger. In the pack, the front row are around 6ft with the hookers a little shorter. The back row and locks are usually bigger guys most hitting 6ft 3 or 4.

The origin of rugby is reputed to be an incident during a game of football at Rugby School, Rugby, England, in 1823 when William Webb-Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it.
