Could be a faulty switch, or light. Or, it could mean that the oil pressure is low. Start by removing the oil switch at the engine, Install another gauge, best is a direct gauge that pumps the oil in a tube to the gauge. You can do this right in the engine compartment. If the pressure is low, then you will know that the oil pump is not working good, or there is blockage of sludge in the engine. If the pressure is good, say 40 lbs plus at fast idle, then most likely the switch has to be replaced.
