Why does the constitution allow for the removal of the president?

That in our representative democracy we the people can decide who best represents the values of the country and if the people feel whoever is president is no longer doing a "good" job we can fire him and elect someone who we feel is better fit to do the job

Having come from England, with an inherited monarchy-- meaning you were stuck with the king (or queen), whether that person was an effective ruler or mentally unbalanced, our Founding Fathers wanted a government with some flexibility; a government where, if the leader became incapable of doing the job or turned out to be thoroughly disreputable, there would be a procedure to replace him.

This demonstrated that the Founders were practical and forward-thinking: they were committed to having a democracy that worked, and while they hoped the right people would be elected, they were prepared for a time when that might not be the case. But they did not want a revolution: they wanted an orderly transfer of power. In other words, they wanted an American government with leaders who had the trust of the voters; and if that trust was betrayed, they wanted a process by which the leader could be removed yet the government would still be stable.

It shows we expect the political leaders to be honest and not break the law. Unlike Nixon and Trump the president is NOT above the law and those who think that they are don't belong in office. People are elected to work for the common good and not to enrich themselves.

They made it very hard to remove a president , but it seemed reasonable to be able to remove a president who was corrupt or totally incompetent before his term was up.
