The mass of an object is the amount of matter that an object has. It is almost the same as weight, but weight is dependent on gravity, while mass is universal.

To determine how to find the amount of mass in an object, try using these formulas:

m=f/a (mass equals force divided by acceleration)

m=dv (mass equals density multiplied by volume)

*Mass is usually measured in kilograms (kg)

Mass is the measure of inertia that an object has. Contrary to popular belief, mass and weight are two different terms. Weight refers to the net gravitational force exerted on an object, with an SI unit of Newtons, while mass refers to the ability of the object to resist changes in velocity, or acceleration. Mass has an SI unit of kilograms.

One important note is that the English units for weight, namely the pound, is not a measure of mass like the kilogram. The comparable English unit for mass is called the "slug."

the SI unit is kg (kilogram), but you can measure it is g(grams); however that is the metric system type of measuring an object's mass. The other way is by lbs (pounds) or oz (ounces).

Mass basic unit in metric system is the kilogram ( kg ) ; however, mass is often expressed in grams ( gm ) , milligrams ( mg ), and micrograms. Mass basic unit in the the American Engineering System is the pound mass ( lbm ). Mass basic unit in the U. S. Customary System is the slug.
