brake fluid is low in resevoir. I have the same problem, but it's due to a sticky sensor. Either that or your handbrake is on!!

On the lancer its easy just pop the trunk open find out which lights are out and take the screws out that hold the lights in place and pop the bulb out that isn't working by turning it and replace it.

If the symbol is a complete circle and resembles a sun with an exclamation point in the center it means it is a exterior light that has burned out.
