The awesome thing about lyrics, metaphors, poetry, is that they can be interpreted and applied however the listener desires. With some songs they tell stories and those are not up for much interpretation. But with a song like this it is you may decide its meaning for yourself. I encourage you to listen to the lyrics to find meaning for yourself. For me it is a somewhat inspirational song. "I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end it doesn't really matter." To me the song always reminds me sometimes not take life so seriously, because in the end it doesn't truly matter. It could be pessimistic to say we will all day, but it is also realistic and it is better to be at peace with this. This song makes me happy. Some people may interpret this song negatively, some positively, some may not listen to it, and some may not know what it is. That is the greatness, that music is personal no matter who made it.
(It starts with)
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know
time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It's so unreal
Didn't look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on but didn't even know
Wasted it all just to
Watch you go
I kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I'm surprised it got so (far)
Things aren't the way they were before
You wouldn't even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end
You kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart
What it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There's only one thing you should know
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
Linkin Park songs are supposed to be open to the interpretation of the listeners. (Basically, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. What does it mean to you, and how does it make you feel?)
I think it means that whatever any one does in life, will all be lost and pointless. The line 'I tried so hard to get so far, but in the end it doesn't even mater' get this across. Even if you become famous, and have bags of money, what will that matter when you are dead? Toby XXX
--- Other people said ---
It means that sometimes, some people are destined for tragedy... Some people, no matter how hard they try, will always end up alone, sad, miserable, angry, resentful, abused, punished and hated.
Those people do not deserve anything that has happened to them, even though they have done it so many times to others. They did not know they were doing it. They want to apologize but they are too afraid of rejection. They can't take another "No". Maybe their parents took drugs. Maybe there adopted. Maybe they were spoiled and are just used to always getting whatever they want, not being taught how to handle rejection.
The piano version enforces these emotions even further. The desire to go back and fix everything and become a better person will always remain. The feelings and pain that is inside of them will never REALLY go away. They have made an irreversible mistake. And a big one at that.
Usually these people want to commit suicide but are too afflicted to. Which makes everything that much more difficult. Almost always all of these emotions can be tracked to one single source.... A lover. Or an ALMOST lover would be more accurate. Letting down a loved one in the biggest way possible is heart-shattering. But letting the MOST loved person in your entire life, the only person you TRULY care about, down in the biggest, most critical moment of either of your lives is heart-torturing. They want to die so much, yet the only live in fear of it.
HE HAS NOT DIED YET. HE HAS NEVER FELT HAPPY FOR REAL. NO ONE HAS UNTIL YOU DIE. OF COURSE HE WOULD SAY IT DIDN'T MATTER BECAUSE GOD IS THE ONLY WAY TO ANY REAL HAPPINESS (you would need to be religious to believe this)!!!!! HE LOVES EVERYONE SO SO MUCH AND JUST WANTS US TO BE HAPPY :) GOD BLESS YOU ALL. AND IF YOU NEED ANYTHING HE SAID ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE. JUST THINK ABOUT IT ARE YOU REALLY HAPPY I PROMISE YOU AND EVERYONE CAN BE IF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD.
The song's concept is mainly based on one person's failure . It is considered symbolic of an ending relationship, however, it can also represent broken trust in a once long-lasting friendship.
linkin park is obsessed with the apocalypse its talking about 2012 basically not the end of the world but like something devastating happening to the world and the pain and struggle humanity will hav to face to fix things.
like he tried so hard and got so far, but now it is over and it does't matter. that's were this part comes in. "I Tried So Hard, and Got So Far, But In The End, It doesn't Even Matter, I had to Fall, To Lose It All, But in The End, It Doesn't Even Mattter"
it mean he has been forgoten by the one he loves...
