In a recent book I read on Lincoln one author states he changed the constitution in the Gettysburg Address. I am sure he changed the national view of states rights which is really what the civil war was about ( even though the discussion on this still goes on). The way he handled the civil war has affected the history of this nation. He handled the challenge pretty well considering that when it was all over there still was a "united" States. His statesmanship still stands out making him one the most admired presidents in 200 years.
