What energy is a nonrenewable source of energy?
Electric energy is a secondary source of energy. This means that it needs a primary energy source to be generated. The renewable and nonrenewable energy sources are called on the primary energy sources and not on the secondary energy source. For example Coal, natural gas, ... etc are nonrenewable energy sources. Solar energy, wind energy, ... etc are renewable energy sources.
Hydrogen is a nonrenewable source of energy when used for nuclear fusion (which is still not a technologically attainable power generation mechanism). When used as an energy carrier for oxidation (e.g. fuel cell, and internal combustion engine) hydrogen is not an energy source. In such applications, hydrogen is a man-made resource.
Nonrenewable energy is derived from any source that you cannot replace. This would include: Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) or Radioactive materials or fissionables (uranium, thorium etc.). Some energy is technically nonrenewable (e.g. geothermal - as it requires the removal of heat from the Earth's core) but are for all purposes is not exhaustible due the amount available. The nonrenewable energy usually of concern are therefor the non-renewable/exhaustible sources.
