The Famine - when Irelands potato crop failed on a national scale millions of people emigrated to escape, irreversibly changing the population now its only 4.5m or so whereas before the famine it was around 15m!!!

∙ 14y agoThe Great Famine was a period of mass starvation, disease and emigration in Ireland between 1845 and 1852 during which the island's population dropped by 20 to 25 percent. Approximately one million people died and a million more emigrated from Ireland. The proximate cause of famine was a potato disease commonly known as potato blight.After this event,many of the Irish people went to America,England especially in Liverpool and other parts of the world.
