Mark Rothko was a painter who was active in the period immediately following World War II, until his suicide in 1970. He was a Russian Jew who immigrated to the US, and got his artistic motivation from his work in the NYC Garment District. It was there that he saw some artists drawing a model, and felt inspired to enroll in design school.
