Lots of things happened after that. The city was planned, etc. Perhaps what you are going for though is the plague of crickets. In 1848 an enormous swarm of crickets were eating the settlers' crops, and they thought that they were going to starve. They prayed, and seagulls came and ate all the crickets, and they were saved. That is why there is a seagull monument in the city... in honor of God sending seagulls to save those first settlers.
