It"s arguable but the Phantom-in French Le fantome, ran for many years in Canadian French comic strips, alongside other comics characters. many comic books are translated into foreign languages-often with considerable plot changes as things are adapted to the new tongue. Lee Falk was the credited artist of (Phantom) and it does sound vaguely French, the strip was never that popular in the US, and was never run by either of the two major Comic Houses- DC ( detective comics) and Marvel comics group. Could be a Frenchman at that.
