There have been thousands of earthquakes so far in 2009. The exact amount depends on your cutoff as to their magnitude. To be practical, you should try to limit that to the major ones over 6.0 on the Richter scale because there have been plenty of those as I list below.
The info I copied was in two columns, so the chronological sequence is jumbled. See the source page below for the original list:

There were 4 big earthquakes in 2000:
there were roughly 14788 earthquakes in 2009 which means there was approximately 41 per day.
Answer #2
According to the USGS in 2009 there were 21,567 earthquakes world-wide with 4.5 magnitude or greater
and 8,497 in United States with magnitude 2.5 or greater.
There were 21,546 recorded earthquakes in 2010 around the world according to the USGS. Note many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes so the actual number is much greater. In fact, the USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year.
The 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile and two 7.8 earthquakes in Indonesia were the most significant in 2010.
On average, there are roughly 20,000 - 30,000 recorded earthquakes worldwide every year by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Earthquake Information Center. Of those, approximately 1 earthquake of magnitude 8.0 and higher (and 15 between M 7.0 - 7.9) occurs per year around the world.
A list of significant earthquakes around the world from earliest recorded times (856 A.D.) to the present is available from the USGS. There are lists sorted by date, magnitude, and country as well as other earthquake statistics and maps.
There are more comprehensive lists and statistics for earthquakes from 1990 to the present.

In the year 1970 there were 2650 earthquakes in different magnitude ranges. The number of earthquakes for the year 1900 isn't documented now.
Many many many many? who ever wrote this shud b more specific. no offence...srry
There are earthquakes almost everyday, some have small magnitudes, you can barely feel them.

The earthquake in Jan 2010 was in Haiti
Vancouver has so many earthquakes because it is along the ring of fire, a fault line.

It is impossible to tell. 2010 was a year of numerous large earthquakes around the globe. However, many smaller earthquakes occurred and many more that were too weak to be measured. It is estimated that millions of earthquakes occur each year.
