It was showmanship, the guitars where sometimes salvaged and repaired to be used again, some artists/guitarist would have used a look-a-like guitar that would be a cheap copy made to look like a Gibson rather than destroy an actual Gibson Les Paul or the like.

According to the official Alvin Lee website (do a Google search to find it) the Gibson ES335 Lee used during Woodstock is in storage. Lee used to tour with it but after someone offered him $500,000 to buy it Lee decided it was to valuable to damage and no longer tours with it. Gibson sells a reproduction of his guitar for about $3,500 but I'm sure it's not going to play as well as Lee's "59. So as far as I know, Lee still has the guitar. Hopefully someday it will be displayed in some museum for all to see. After all, what good is a great guitar without being able to see it or play it. Mike K.

For a used Gibson sg its about 1.500.00$ some abit less but for a Gibson sg that has not been used it can go over 2.000.00$ or maybe you can by it for less. but i don't know the total exacte.
