The dermis is the layer just under the epidermis that contains hair follicles,nerves,blood and lymph vessels - the layer you get the sense of touch from. It is made of connective tissue. The function of the dermis is to be the major support structure for the epidermis. It contains the strength in its fibers and is considered to be the true skin. It also supplies the epidermis with blood and nutrients.
