Having grown up in a Presyterian church, I can tell you with confidence that the below items are commonly found in the sanctuary of modern presbyterian churches throughout Canada.

More sacred or spiritual objects

  • Pulpit (behind which the minister preaches)
  • Lectern (from which The Bible is read)
  • Baptismal Font (holds water for baptisms)
  • The Elements (hold wine glasses and plates for sacrament of communion)
  • 3 cushioned chairs behind pulpit with center being larger than the outside chairs (Christ, God, Joly Spirit)
  • Offertory Plates (passed to collect tithes for church maintanance)
  • Seasonal Items
    • Candle arrangement on cross for Christmas
    • Candle arrangement on cross for Lent
    • Christmas Tree
    • Large cross with black drape- later changed to white drape Lent

Furnishings and other Trivialities

  • Pews (wooden benches for the congregation to sit on)
  • A Choir loft (With chairs for the choristers)
  • An organ, a piano or both
    • more modern churches may have a full praise bad
    • guitar, drums, bass, tambourine, etc.
  • Floral arrangements (often left-overs from funerals and weddings)
  • Banners indicating Church Season (Lent, Christmas, Pentecost, etc.)
