The ANGLICAN church IS protestant but not as protestant as its breakaways, i.e. Methodists, Baptists or the Calvinist Presbyterians who considered Anglicans too papish, at least in appearance if not in practice.

To the best of my knowledge, the Lutherans and the Anglicans were the original churches which broke away from the Catholic Church, followed by the Calvinists. I am no expert on protestants, but I think all the rest broke away from those original three.
