the north. most northern people were abolitionists, so that means they didnt like the idea of slavery. there were few abolitionists in the south, and they could be black or white. hope this helps you!

In the antebellum days, people who were against slavery, against it in a big way were called abolitionists. Such people as Horace Greeley, Harriet Beecher Stowe, William Garrison and Frederick Douglas are examples of abolitionism.
