The black death was the Bubonic Plague. They had a nasty bacterial infection that could be easily cured today with a bit of penicillin. Unfortunately it wouldn't be invented for hundreds of years;
A third of the population of Europe died.
The Black Death was a specific outbreak of plague that happened in 1347 to about 1352 in Europe, and was almost certainly the bubonic plague along with other types of plague caused by the same organism, the Yersinia pestis bacterium. This species of bacteria infects a number of different organisms, but the main vectors were black rats and oriental rat fleas. The fleas bit human beings or other animals because the rats they lived on died, and they were looking for another host, but they preferred rats. The fleas that carried the plague also died. In the end, there were not enough rats or fleas to maintain a population of the bacteria, so it mostly died out.
Yersinia pestis bacteria can stay around in small numbers in what are called reservoir hosts. They also go dormant and remain alive in the dead bodies of their victims, and when other animals disturb those remains, they can come back, as happens when ground squirrels dig through old grave yards. The result is that the plague came back every few years, though never in the widespread way it did in the Black Death. Now, there are a few cases each year, and they can be treated with modern antibiotics.
Scientists and historians at the beginning of the 20th century assumed that the Black Death was an outbreak of the same disease, caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis and spread by fleas with the help of animals like the black rat (Rattus rattus).
the black death was the plauge and loads of people died during in it.
some of the cures like sitting in the sewers to drive it away, kill and burn all of the cats and dogs to ash and other stuff (please note these where not correct cures people just thought they where)
