This "veil, woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread and fine linen....with an artistic design of cherubim" according to Exodus 26:31-34 which ws originally in the Tablernacle (the travelling tent of Worship) until replaced by Temple built in Jerusalem, served the purpose of dividing the Temple into two parts: The HOLY PLACE, where the priest entered with incense and shewbread in the usual acts of worship, and the MOST HOLY PLACE, where the High Priest alone entered once a year with the specified sacrifice, for himself and the sins of the people, behind the veil where the ark of the Covenant was placed.
