Yes, he is alive. You can tell this by reading the last letter of the story. It was signed by "Victor Adams" but if you remember, the main character's real name is Victor Adams so he couldn't have written that letter to himself. Also, the letter keeps saying "I would venture to say.." and Alex had stated that Christopher Creed said this a lot.
