Lucille Ball's maid Harriet McClain was one of the first maids that she employed in the early days of her career. She would be with Lucy from the 1940s until the 1980s. At first there relationship as employer and employee was rough but as the years went by they became very close. Lucille Ball and Harriet McClain would be the first people to integrate her penthouse elevator at Lucy insistence despite a policy which prohibited Negros from the main elevators. Harriet kept all of Lucille Ball deepest secerts and was a great friend to her during Lucy rocky marriage. She died sometime in the early 1980s.
