Old harry was a stack. Old harry was an old man who drove his ships in. His wife every night stood on the end of the rock holding a lamp out so Old Harry wouldn't crash his boat. One night old harry went out in his boat and his wife was in the pub. Old Harry's wife was drunk and was walking out along the stacks and fell off and died. Along came old harry in his boat and because there was no lamp he crashed his boat in to a millions of pieces and he died to. So that is how Old Harry the stack got its name.

∙ 11y agoThere are two stories about the naming of the rocks. One legend says that the Devil (traditionally known as "Old Harry") had a sleep on the rocks. Another local legend says that the rocks were named after Harry Paye, the infamous Poole pirate, who stored his contraband nearby

∙ 12y agoOld Harry's rocks were created by a headland getting eroded. The stages went: Cracks (hydrolic action), Cave (abrasion), Arch (spray comes of the waves) and then after the arch collapses, then you were left with Old Harry. His wife got eroded in time into a stump after she collapsed but Harry is still stood there until the same will happen to him.
