There were many types of poison gas. The most deadly was mustard gas. It chokes you and burns your skin, and the worst thing is that you didn't know it was coming until you saw smoke coming in, or you started choking, or you heard a poison gas emergency signal. You just couldn't see it ahead of time. Another poison gas was tear gas. It would damage your eyes. Chlorine gas was a harsh one as well. It would have filled up your lungs with liquid so you couldn't breathe. Breathing in only a small amount would result in gas. Many times your gas mask was more important than your rifle. Gas was difficult and dangerous to use though, because the wind could easily change direction and carry poisonous gas to your own side. Despite its setbacks, it was the easiest way to kill. Also, gas was never reported to have been used in WWII.

The people who were gassed in World War I died by as_phyxiation, as the chlorine gas burned their throats. Many soldiers were gassed to draw them out of the trenches into the open where they were easy targets for the enemy.
