As you know, salt dehydrates. Example-Salt is used to dry beef jerky etc. When a person drinks salt water when they are dehydrated, they become hallucigentic. The brain starts drying out and it is all down hill from there. Hope this helps.

Drinking salt water often causes the drinker to vomit. People lost at sea without fresh water have tried drinking salt water in desperation, however, because the salt content of the sea water is much higher than the salt content of body fluids (blood), the salt water actually makes the dehydration worse, so drinking sea water can result in death.

A water softener that is working properly does not allow salt water into the household water. The water softener removes calcium and replaces it with sodium (from the salt). So softened water contains a small amount of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). This is completely harmless.
Some people are concerned about drinking softened water because it contains a slightly increased level of sodium. This is much lower than in milk (about 1/5th) and for most people will have no effect. However you should never make up babies formula milk with softened water. And the very few people on medically supervised low sodium diets should also avoid drinking softened water.

Reputable water softener installers will normally install a separate hard water drinking tap. Julian Hobday of KindWater

it depends how much salt is in the water. If the salt in the water is at the same concentrations as in the blood, otherwise known as isotonic, then there are no real negative affects. If the salt is in higher concentrations, or "hypertonic", then the salt will act as a diuretic. This means the salt will act to make your body lose water, through your kidneys. This could lead to dehydration. High amounts of salt in the diet have also been linked to hypertension. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a risk factor for many serious disease states, including heart attacks and Diabetes.

Nothing, if it is only an accidental amount. If you drink it to survive however, you will in the end die from dehydration: the body needs to excrete more water to get rid of the salt than the amount of seawater you had been drinking.
