Christians beleive that if you trust Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. That he came to this earth to die for your sins and that there is God which is also his "father" you will go to heaven. If you don't you will spend eternity in hell. It is not a works based faith.

Another answer from our community:

Christians believe that they go to heaven, a paradise in the presence of God.

However, believing this does not prove it happens, and we have no proof that heaven exists.

Answer -

If you follow the LORD, as in you do what The Bible says than you go to Heaven.

They go to a place called the Kingdom of God. Like a child in the Morther's womb can't understand Kingdom of Earth. No hear or eye can image how wonderful the Kingdom of God is. It would be the same if a baby still in the womb would try use their imagations to think what earth is like. Or to even believe in it. But, then the child is born and even then the wonders of earth is still hard to take in. But not for long. Christain call this Kingdom of God being born again. It starts on this side of death, but we can not fully understand the wonders of it all. But, not for long. But, one day we die and then we do. Just the same as non-christain have no idea about the hell they will go to. Here on earth some have tasted hell but not in it's total. Some, maybe you have tasted the Kingdom of Heaven when you see the wonders around you, in a tree or a simple leaf. Of course the choice of the baby in womb was made by others. Now, the choice of Hell or Heaven is made by you. How do you make such a choice? I Believe that choice is Jesus the Chirst. The Three major faiths all agree that Jesus doesn't lie. They don't all believe He is the only way but that is what HE spoke of himself. I am a Jew that has found him to be truthful. I hope you do too. I didn't not ask for heaven or if there is a hell, But, I asked for truth. He proved himself. I would say that is a simple test for a real GOD. Come into my heart and prove yourself to be GOD. Then I got to know him during the time I gave him to prove himself and he did. Reading the Bible. Then the question you ask was answer by a greater one than me.

If you are a believer in Jesus, and what He did on the cross, you will have eternal life

in heaven. If you are already saved, you need not doubt where you will go after your body parishes.
The most common and accurate belief for Christians is that when they die, their soul/spirit leaves their physical bodies, and appears in the presence of God. Here the spirit is judged according to what they believe: if their faith is in Jesus and everything he did while he was on Earth, and lived according to God's Word, the Bible, then God will grant them to live with him in Heaven. Christians don't have the right to say weather you shall go to hell or not that judgment is left to god and god alone.

A common debate on this subject is whether or not the soul goes straight into Heaven, or if it remains on 'stand-by' until Judgement Day. I, along with the majority of Christians, believe the soul is judged straight away. This is backed up in Luke 23, when one of the men who is crucified alongside Jesus defends him against another being crucified with them. Jesus says to this man in verse 43:

"I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise"

This basically says that the man who believed that Jesus was God would be given passage into heaven upon his death.

What about those who are not yet dead?

One day, Jesus will return to Earth to judge those remaining on Earth, following the same lines as mentioned above. Those who believe will be saved, the others will go to Hell.

I hope this answers any doubts you may have. God Bless

Andrew

Answer:

According to the Bible... like everyone else who dies - Christians, too, are "asleep"... dead and hopefully buried.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 & 10 says: "...the dead know not any thing... for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, IN THE GRAVE, WHITHER THOU GOEST."

Religious speculation aside... nowhere does the Bible say that man has a soul, immortal or otherwise. The Bible says that man IS a soul... nothing more than a physical mortal "creature," as the word translated "soul" is also translated in Genesis 1:21, talking about "fish."

The Bible says man has a "spirit" within him. God gives every person born, one spirit, each.

"...there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding." (Job.32:8)

"...the Lord, which... formeth the spirit of man within him..." (Zech.12:1).

God says that we are "dirt": "...for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return" (Gen.3:19). And He says that our spirit returns to Him upon our death.

"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." (Eccle.12:7)

Take note that this is not a religious or moral judgment. It is a fact... the mere Truth of God's Word... the Word of the One who actually does know what happens to the dead.

It doesn't say anything about "Judgment." The Bible speaks of man's "Judgment" at the Last Day, which is prophesied to occur "when Jesus returns to earth with the Kingdom of God.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 says that a man's spirit returns to God who gave it. It does not qualify "good" or "bad" spirits... or that "good spirits go to heaven" or that "bad spirits go to hell." The spirit of every person who lives RETURNS TO GOD WHEN THEY DIE.

However... the "spirits of His saints" God will bring with Him when He comes back... and will return them to whatever body He decides to give them upon their resurrections. These will be judged immediately... and rewarded accordingly, then, and not before.

"...unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation." (Heb.9:28)

If, according to some men's imaginations, God supposedly judges everyone immediately upon their deaths... what in the world would be the need for the prophesied "Judgment Day" at the "Last Day?" In case God changes His mind, later?

"...I am the Lord, I change not..." (Malachi 3:6).

"...Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." (Heb.13:8)

Christians are only people who die like other people... with one exception. They die with the faith and hope of Jesus Christ in them. They are the "dead in Christ."

"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them WHICH ARE ASLEEP, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which SLEEP IN JESUS will God bring with Him. For this we say unto you by the Word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain UNTO THE COMING OF THE LORD shall not prevent (precede) them WHICH ARE ASLEEP. For the Lord Himself SHALL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST..." (I Thess.4:13-16).

That's what happens to Christians after they die. They fall into a profound dreamless sleep and await the return of Jesus Christ for their resurrection to be with Him to rule with Him in His Kingdom over the nations.

The Lamb of God, Jesus Christ: "...hast made us unto our God (the Father) kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth." (Rev.5:10)

"...he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron..." (Rev.2:26-27).

Yeah, that all sounds good. However, it gets somewhat troublesome when we consider Jesus' story about the rich man and Lazarus. It gets more complicated when the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5 discusses how we can be present with the Lord when we are absent from our bodies or tents and are then clothed with our dwelling from heaven. Yes, the belief systems regarding life after death gets rather complicated when we consider 2 Corinthians 12:2 about a man's trip to the 3rd heaven and Paul is not sure if he was in the body or out of the body. There are other texts but it would seem wise not to oversimplify the fact that Jesus parable did not help soul sleep and Paul's influence did not teach soul sleep either. The topic of life after death seems complicated indeed.

The many near death experiences of those who have traveled out of body describe many visual details among both the living and the dead that they could not have know unless they had physically traveled to a new location while they were "unconscious."

What is even more troublesome is how former Atheist's have changed their belief systems after having such near death, out of body experiences. I wish this topic were simpler.

Christians believe that if they profess with their mouth that Jesus died and rose again on the third day, and accept him as Lord and Savior, then when the [born again] christian dies he/she will go to heaven, or if Jesus comes back before they die they will be raptured and taken up to heaven.
Christians believe that you will enter afterlife. You have Heaven and Hell.

Heaven is for the good people on earth

Hell is for the bad people on earth.

When the person dies, the death must be registered ASAP, so that funeral arrangements can be done. Usually, a few days, or weeks after the death; the persons body is either Buried or Cremated.

The Soul enters heaven or hell depending on how they have acted in life. Many People describe Hell as a rough place, with a fire burning around them.

NO.

Christians believe that people go to one of two places after they die - eternal life or eternal death. Eternal life is a gift from God it is through believing His son Jesus died as a sacrifice for the disobedience (sin) of all.

Joh 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

1Jn 5:11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

1Jn 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

That every man / person will be judged by Christ (Jesus) and that he will decide whether one goes to hell or heaven.

Generally, though, most parts of Christianity believe they will go to heaven, or that every man goes to heaven.

The Scripture says: "It is appointed unto man once to die, and after this the judgment." Hebrews 9:27. Christ indicated that those who did not turn to Him, would be punished with eternal death in Hell and those who did trust Him as the one who paid the price for their sins, would be forgiven and have eternal life. No place is ever intimated in the Scriptures that, after death, any would have opportunity to get things right with God.

Paul said, for the Christian, that "to live is Christ, but to die is gain." Philippians!:21. He further indicated that God had a purpose for keeping him here on earth. Also Paul said for Christians: "To be absent from the body," is "to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8.

The idea that the dead will go to a holding place called Purgatory is particularly a view held primarily by the Roman Catholic Church to await the coming of Jesus for final judgment. Some others, such as the Anglican Church and the Eastern Orthodox church give the teaching some credence.

There is much deate about this but Jesus was quite clear to the repentant thief, 'Today you will be with me in paradise.' Paradise is Greek for a garden so there is a place where those who trust in Christ go until the Second Coming and the resurrection when we shall be given our new everalsting bodies and inhabit the renewed Earth united with Jesus and the Heavenly realm. If you want a good book on the subject I recommend 'Surprised by Hope' by N T Wright (the Anglican Bishop of Durham).

Christians believe they go to a more pleasant place, which they call heaven. There is no evidence that heaven exists, but for many it is comforting to believe that we can live forever and do not cease to exist when we die.
