What is diabulimia?

It is when diabetics stop taking their insulin to lose weight. It does work to some extent, but it is very damaging to their bodies. With them already having diabetes, any other problems make it so much worse. Long-term damage can be done to them. Among other things, they can have eye or kidney problems. One expert who has studied the phenomenon estimates that 450,000 Type 1 diabetic women in the United States - one-third of the total - have skipped or shortchanged their insulin to lose weight and are risking a coma and an early death. This form of eating disorder has been a problem for a long time, but the term "diabulimia" is not a recognized medical condition. Whether is it officially recognized or not, people need to realize its harmful effects. A diabetic's body either doesn't make or can't use its insulin. Therefore, it needs that insulin very much. Don't take less or stop taking it. If you're a diabetic, it could be nessecary for you to stay alive. Consider your options here. You could take your insulin like you should and be fine. Or you could stop taking it or not take as much and lose a few pounds while in the process doing permanent damage to your body.
