During formation of bond, the atoms come close, then their are two possibilities

1. The force of attraction between electron of one atom and the nucleus of the other atom and the electron of the other atom attracts the nucleus of the another atom. This attractive forces lowers the potential energy of the two atoms and their are chances of bond formation.

2.There are also repulsive forces between nucleus-nucleus and electron-electron,which increases the potential energy.

But as the attractive forces are dominant over the repulsive forces, therefore atoms come close and lower the energy of atoms forming bond....

During the formation of bond the potential energy of the atoms decreased.

What happens to energy when a chemical bond is broken or forms?

When a chemical bond forms, energy is absorbed between the atoms that bond. When a chemical bond is broken, energy is immediately and dramatically released.

What happens to energy during a chemical change?

when a chemical change occurs, chemical bonds are broken up

What happens when chemical bond forms?

energy is released

What happens to the potential energy of the resulting compound when a chemical bond forms?

The potential energy is transformed to heat or light energy

When chemical energy is used what happens?

Chemical energy can be "used" (ie changed from one form to another) through a chemical reaction. Energy may be released in many forms, including heat.

What happens to lost energy when water is created?

It forms covalent bonds between hydrogen and oxygen. The energy is released when the bonds are broken through electrolysis.

Chemical energy forms?

it is a form of energy

What forms of energy is the gasoline?

Chemical energy.

What happens to energy and matter in a chemical reaction?

Energy and matter are both conserved during a chemical reaction, but the energy may change form, for example, from chemical potential energy to evolved heat. The matter also forms a new type of chemical bond and/or breaks an old type of chemical bond.

Oil and coal are what forms of energy?

They are substances so they are not forms of energy. They contain chemical energy.

Which is a source of chemical energy commonly used by humans?

Many energy sources commonly used by humans are forms of chemical energy. They are usually labeled "fuels." The way to use the chemical energy in most fuels is by burning them, as we do with wood, natural gas, gasoline, coal, and others.

Can chemical energy be transformed into other forms of energy?

Chemical energy can be transformed into other forms of energy. This form of energy can be converted into motion energy, electric energy and heat energy among others.
