The flame
The heat from a firework comes from all of the oxygen and gases when the substance is formed in a firework :-)
I think it is the explosion
it cant be cos it needs heat to set it off before it explodes cos a fire needs all of the following three to start/carry on:
1. heat
2. fuel
3. oxygen
It will explode in the air
WARNING: DO NOT FIRE A FIREWORK IN YOUR HOUSE!!!

When a firework is set off, a chemical reaction occurs inside the firework shell. The ignition of a fuse ignites the gunpowder, producing rapidly expanding gases. These gases create pressure, leading to the explosion of the firework shell. As a result, colorful sparks, flames, and loud sounds are produced. Fireworks can also contain various chemicals that generate specific colors and effects when they burn.

Because an exothermic reaction is taking place which is what causes it to harden. Exothermic reactions are characterized by giving off heat.
A flame releases thermal energy - heat - to the surroundings via conduction to the surrounding air, convection of the air thus heated, and radiation due to the difference in temperature between the flame and the surrounding area. It also releases energy in the form of light.
