What happens when a star dies?

First the star triples in size, then turns red and becomes a red giant. If the sun did this, sunrise on earth would look like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/b/b2/20070304094558!Sun_Red_Giant.jpg (Copy and Paste or click it if it ends up as a hyperlink) Then the sun will expand even more engulfing the earth and blowing it up with the power of 60000 atom bombs. the dying star would then just slowly disintegrate leaving a white dwarf star.

Edit: High mass stars (mass at least 8 times the Sun's mass) "die" in a different way. They become "Supergiant" stars. These usually explode as a Supernova,

leaving behind a neutron star or a black hole.
