Initially a series of tensile structures (on continents) such as horst and graben will form. These are a series of downthrown crustal blockes surrounded on ether side by normal faults.
If the tensile stress continues, this will form a rift with the associated vulcanism. Ultimately this can form a new spreading centre creating a new ocean and mid oceanic ridge.
Plates Separate
The Mid-Ocean Ridge and rift valleys, such as the one that runs through eastern Africa, occur along boundaries where plates are spreading apart. New oceanic crust is created as the plates separate and molten rock rises up from the mantle and fills the space. The earthquakes and the volcanic eruptions along the Mid-Ocean Ridges are a direct result of this process.
There is also an island formed by the magma from the inner core that rises up to make tiny islands like Hawaii
An earthquake or tremor would occur.
no, actually a volcanic eruption would occur then there would be a volcano
When plates move apart, new crust forms from rising mantle material.
When two plates separate, it creates a rift valley
New crust forms from rising mantle material.
a rift valley which later turns into a mid ocean ridge when it covers a big area and fills with water.
when plate seperate the heavier one goes under neath
Iceland
all continents were separated by plates separating them.
The Earth's outer layer is called the Crust, and the crust is split into various types of tectonic plates.
It is where 2 plates are separating, moving away from each other and magma fills the space.
the plate tectonics. the plates were (and still are) moving which caused the supercontinent to split apart and come into the places where they are today. someday, since the plates are still moving, all the continents will come together again and form another supercontinent.
continent. Pangea split into Laurasia and then all our countries slowly split apart due to the tectonic plates
At the boundry of two tectonic plates, you get volcanoes, earthquake epicentres and ( if its under the ocean) tsunamis.
Yes

Plate tectonics. Continents are the exposed (from the oceans) geological areas of tectonic plates. Continents can also be on top of more than one tectonic plate. When these plates move, continents move with them. Millions of years ago, continents were split apart and also created by tectonic plate movement.
There once was this thing named Pangaea and it split apart and keeps moving every year forming the continents that we know today. Hope it helped.
Pangea was a huge landmass made of all the continents today. Tectonic plates in the Earth moved, causing it to split apart.
it's when tectonic plates split and magma comes up through the separation of the tectonic plates and build new crust
When tectonic plates divide they create divergent boundaries, which can cause the earths surface to divide and split up, almost like when you rip a piece of paper
That would be the lithosphere which is split into tectonic plates.
The Mid-Atlantic-Ridge is where two of Earth's plates split apart. The Mid-Atlantic-Ridge was formed along a divergent boundary where seafloor spreading is taking place.
