The starter turns the flywheel, which turns the crankshaft that has the pistons connected to it. As the piston is pulled down the cylinder, air and fuel is pulled into the cylinder. The piston then travels up the cylinder and compresses the air/fuel mixture. When it reaches the top of the cylinder, the spark plug ignites the fuel and the piston is forced back down the cylinder. This provides the power to keep the engine turning. On the next upward stroke, the cylinder forces the exhaust gases out, and the cycle starts over. This is done in series in each of the cylinders in the motor. The cylinders fire in a staggered order to balance the motor.
If it is a diesel, there is no spark plug, but there is a glow plug. The glow plug's job is to heat the fuel-air mixture to make it easier to ignite. As the cylinder rises, it compresses the mixture, heating it. This high compression makes the fuel-air mixture hot enough to ignite.
On an interference engine you can have internal engine damage when you attempt to start it. On a noninterference engine it may not start or it may backfire, or miss, if it does start.
the engine wont start
Normally, The engine will not start.
Nothing as long as you do not start the engine. If you start and run the engine with no oil, then it will self destruct in short order from lack of lubrication.
Engine won't start
The engine will have NO POWER and will not want to start or even run.
not much, it just makes it harder to start when the engine is warm. but diesel in a petrol car...do not start or it wil destroy it
The engine will start to overheat and all the bearings and rings will start to wear and eventually seize and lock up the engine. The engine will be ruined in a very short amount of time.
The engine won't start or will be hard to start in cold weather unless you have the motor heater plugged in.
The engine won't start.
The engine floods and you have to wait for the lawnmower to drain before you start it up again or it might start smoking.
When you attempt to start engine, nothing happens-- similar to weak or dead battery. You may hear "click" and lights may dim, but engine will not rotate
