A hormone called atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is secreted by the heart in response to a rise in blood pressure and fluctuating sodium-water balances. The result of it's actions (that are a bit tricky but I can elaborate if you require) are that blood pressure is decreased by allowing sodium and water to leave the body via the urine.

The opposite of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) will cause a loss of sodium and therefore water. This hormone is self regulatory. So there is no hormone that the body makes that is an ADH antagonist.

Why does taking a steroid hormone make you retain water?

A steroid hormone has a side effect of having mineralcorticoid activity. Specifically, it exerts similar effects to that of aldosterone. What aldosterone does is increase the amount of sodium that's reabsorbed by your kidney. With sodium, water comes along as well, hence the water retention from a steroid hormone.

Main intracellular ion maintains icf osmotic pressure?

Potassium is the major intracellular ion, not sodium as was previously answered. Sodium is the major extracellular ion (along with chloride, and smaller amounts of potassium and bicarbonate)

Will baking soda slow arthritis progression?

No, but it will give you a worse problem to think about. Baking soda will cause your intake of sodium to increase and your blood pressure along with it.

What is a hormone that prevents the loss of sodium ions?

Aldosterone. Aldosterone acts on the Na+/K+ ATPase pump in the Distal Proximal Tube/Collecting duct in the kidney. Importantly, when this pump action is up-regulated, Na+ re-absorption goes up along with WATER, which is recovered with the sodium ions.

Convection from the inner layers of the earth

What pushes electricity through the wire?

Difference of potential (voltage) causes current to flow as long as there is a complete path (circuit) for it to flow along. Voltage can be thought of as electrical pressure along the same lines as water pressure. If there is a competed path the electrical 'pressure'will push the electrons from the higher potention (pressure) to the lower potential (pressure).
