A 1949 Liberty Nickel is not a genuine American coin. Liberty Nickels were last minted in 1912 and do not include a 1949 version. If you have a coin stamped with Liberty and the year 1949, it may be counterfeit or a novelty item.

Liberty nickels were minted from 1883 to 1912. Your coin is a Jefferson nickel, and despite its age is not worth much more than face value unless it's in top condition. Please see the Related Question.

All US Liberty nickels (dated 1883 to 1912) are worth more than face value. In worn condition minimum retail prices are at least a couple of dollars, but could be much higher depending on the coin's date. If the coin is in better condition or is dated 1898 or earlier it can be worth more, sometimes a lot more, but you need to have specific information about the coin.

They can be worth a good bit of money but it depends on the date and condition of the coins and mintmarks. Post new question
