Yes, land hermit crabs do mate. If you mean in captivity...yes and no. They will mate and sometimes you will even get fertilized eggs, but you can not raise them to be surviving baby hermit crabs in captivity unless you can duplicate the ocean.
It is very hard to breed hermit crabs but some people have however. You will need to have a salt water pool and many other things to suit their needs. Hermit crabs in captivity cannot mate. Unless you live on a tropical island with wild hermit crabs, there's no need to worry. They were probably just playing.
i think they get jiggy with a mate and lay eggs.
they are probably mating right now bacause they mate all the time
so when the eggs hatch the baby hermit crabs know where to get the water so they can have it in their shells to breathe.
i dont think so because i mean salt and fresh water is two different kinds of water but does it matter where they mate they could do it on land if they wanted it doesnt matter if they are gona mate they will
To change into a new shell or to mate. If not for these reasons, it is very sick
Because they give birth in the edge of the ocean, and we dont have the right conditions for it, it would be very difficult to breed hermit crabs. however, there is at least one lady who is trying to do so and has had some marginal success - so for now we are just waiting to see what happens. She had to have an ocean reef setup and cycled so that she could put the mature eggs in there to hatch and live until they can occupy shells. Mnay crab owners have had pregnant females, but without an ocean reef - the zoea die. go to http://www.thecrabbagepatch.com/lifecycle.html to read the full story :)
Hermit crabs are only known to mate in the wild. To tell what sex a crab is look at the back underside of the legs if they have a dot it is usually a female.
