Yeah. I left my window open for the night, it was about 12 degrees F. The next morning after about 6 hours I closed the window but I didn't look at my fish. When i got home which was about 12 hours since i opened the window and 6 since I closed it, My fish was dead.
For tropical fish the water can easily get too cold(below 20°C). But if you have the more common goldfish it almost can't get too cold. As long as the temperature is between 4°C-30°C ,though below 10°C isn't recommendable, it should be fine. But the temperature shouldn't change too rapidly.
all fish can live in cold wheather it just depends on how deep your pond is. the perfect depth is about 5 to 7 ft deep.
