Dr. Seuss was inspired to write Children's Books because he believed that reading should be fun and engaging for young readers. After visiting a crypet museum in New York, he was inspired by the weird and whimsical creatures he saw, which led him to create some of his iconic characters like the Grinch and The Cat in the Hat.

He found out that his wife was incapable of having children
In 1937, while on a trip, he was inspired to write his first book, To Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

In 1954, he read an article that said children were having trouble learning how to read in schools across the country, because children found the books boring. This inspired Dr. Seuss to try to write for beginners. He took a list of 250 words the schools were teaching kids, and put all of them into one book called The Cat in the Hat.
