Buddhists do not believe in any immortal all-powerful god or gods. The Buddha rejected that the universe was created by any act of an all powerful being, and said that any speculation as to how the world started as worthless.

There is no god of Buddhism. Buddists, in general, do not beleive in any infinite, all-powerful gods. Some Buddhist traditions teach that there is a God Realm in the afterlife in which enlightened beings called Devas live for a long time, but not forever, as a reward for their past lives. It is believed that these Devas can influence people on Earth to do good.

Also some branches of Buddhism believe in beings called a Bodhisattva. A Bodhisattva is an enlightened being who, because of their compassion for all beings, have decided to dedicate this life and all other rebirths to the enlightenment of all sentient beings; they choose this over Nirvana (breaking the cycle of rebirth that they have attained).

When Buddhists pray our prayers are actually more like a mantra, directed to the person themselves, to help facilitate their own enlightenment. Their prayer may consist of statements like, "By your example may I be more compassionate to all sentient beings…" So this is very different than asking a God to intervene on behalf of the person praying.
