During reaction of metals and non-metals, metal atoms tend to loose electrons and non-metal atoms tend to gain electrons. This transfer of electrons has a predictable offect on the size of the ions that form, and that predictable effect on the size is called the ionic size.

I think it depends what the magnesium is built into.

What would cause an ionic compound showing more covalent character?

The smaller size of cation (as Li+) and larger size of anion (as I-) is the main cause for the covalent character in ionic compound.

barium

Why oxygen size is bigger then zn size in Zinc oxide structure?

In ZnO, Znic (Zn++) ionic radious is 74 pm while Oxygen(O2-) inoc radious is 126pm. As the ionic radious is large of the oxygen atom. So oxygen size is bigger than Zn size.

What is the size of a NaCl molecule?

Is lithium aq good conductor?

Lithium is a good conductor in its normal ionic state but in aqueous solutions, it forms very large molecule by attracting lots of water ions to itself. Its ionic size in aqueous solution is even greater than the size of cesium ion in water. This increased ionic size in aqueous solution reduces its mobility in the solution and reducing its conductivity.

Why do atomic size and ionic size increase as you move down a group?

The number of subshells increases, so the radius of the atoms get larger.

Why do both atomic size and ionic size increase as you move down a group?

Both trends hold for both positive and negative ions.

What factors determine ionic size?

- nuclear charge - number of electrons - orbitals in which the electrons reside

What is the ionic size for francium?

Only the value for the covalent radius is known now: 260 pm.

Why the ionic radii of negative ions are larger then the size of their parent atoms?

Because electrons are gained.

What molecules move in and out of cells?

Molecules move in and out of the cell by difffusion process and only those molecules which have size smaller then pore size of plasma membrane can move in and out of the cell. The second factor is ionic conc or is also known as conc gradient according to which molecules of required ionic status can move in and out of the cell

Why are size of cations always smaller and size of anions always bigger than the corresponding atom?

anions always gain extra electrons casing the ionic radius to increase but cations remove electrons causing the ionic radius to decrease .therefore anionic radius is greater than cationic radius

What are the benefits of using Ionic hair dryers?

Ionic hair dryers employ negatively charged ions that break down wet water into molecules and reduce them to a fraction of their size. The benefits of using an ionic hair dryer include that it works much better and it dries hair much faster.
