They were famous for discovering the structure of DNA.
The discovery of DNA did not come about by chance or luck. Crick and Watson, like all good scientists kept their eyes open, asked questions and made sure that nothing that could be potentially informative was allowed to slip by.
James Watson and Francis Crick are famous for discovering the shape of DNA. Hope this helps :)
they were the first to propose the structure of DNA as the double helix
They discovered the double helix structure of DNA.
However they might likely have failed without the x-ray crystallography work done for them by Rosalind Franklin.
discovered the DNA of a people.
James Watson and Francis Crick.
James Watson and Francis Crick are technically the ones who discovered the structure, and are given credit. However, multiple people played crucial roles in this finding, including Rosalind Franklin.
ME!!! It would be nice if people would be serious about answering questions. Children of all ages come here to get help with homework and could use the CORRECT ANSWER which is: James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953. Sorry but your wrong. The real answer is not Wotson and Crick but is really Rosalind Franklin back in 1898. If I were you I would look in the textbook because this is confusing children who look for the correct answer but get stuck in a situation where there are two different answers, I wouldn't turn to the internet for help if I were you. You're smart. All you need to do is think. Now I sound like a motivational speaker.. :/ ~Soon to be motivational speaker :P
double helix model
The Watson and Crick scandal was when James Watson and Francis Crick were trying to figure out the 3 dimensional structure of DNA. They came very close to discovering it when they discovered a fellow scientist named Rosalind Franklin had the data they needed. Instead of collaborating with her, Watson and Crick broke into her lab, stole her data, quickly figured out the structure, and did not give her any credit. When they won the Nobel Prize in 1962, they mentioned many names but her name was not on the list. Later, Watson openly admitted that they stole from Rosalind Franklin.

Watson created a model of the DNA double helix structure along with Francis Crick. Rosalind Franklin discovered the structure of DNA by using X-ray diffraction. Watson and Crick used Franklin's unpublished data without her consent in the construction of the double helix model and took credit for the findings.

He did the exact same thing that James Watson did. He used the work of Rosalind Franklin to discover it. He and Crick were given credit not Rosalind Franklin. They found out the structure of DNA (the double helix).

When Watson and Crick were working on the structure of DNA, they used Rosalind Franklin's discovery (she was working on X-Ray diffraction of the crystallized substance) that the molecule was helical in their work but failed to credit her contribution properly in their papers/books. Only they can answer as to why they did this, but morally it is forever to their shame.

Oswald and Avery plus Hersey and Chase were early experimenters that actually showed that DNA, not protein, was the hereditary material. Maurice Wilkins and especially Rosalind Franklin with her X-ray crystallography laid the physical ground work, but it was James Watson and Francis Crick who elucidated the structure of DNA in 1952.
Rosalind Franklin discovered that DNA has the shape of a double helix by using x-ray technology. However, two scientists got the credit for discovering the double helix shape of DNA, James Watson and Francis Crick. Watson and Crick get the credit for discovering the double helix shape because Rosalind Franklin died in 1958, and the first Nobel prize for discovery wasn't awarded until 1962.
