Kyle XY was canceled January 31st 2009 after the show had finished shooting the season. At the very first there was some talk about a DVD movie but the ratings kept declining and the talk died down. So far the only closure ABC Family is offering faithful viewers is a interview from Julie Plec (co-writer and executive producer). Unfortunately this interview doesn't mean much because decisions can change during the course of a series, so many fans regard this as speculation until it is put onto film.

The reason for the cancellation, while not official, is due to declining ratings (1.3 million down 33% from season 2) and the unprecedented success of Secret Life. Of course many fans have very valid arguments when they point out that ABC Family looked like they wanted the series to fail. Apart from very little preseason promotion (and during the season), putting the show on the same time as Heroes and 24, and ten month hiatus, Kyle XY had very decent numbers. It is very possible that ABC Family is just moving in a different direction and Kyle XY didn't attract the Demographics they wanted. Unfortunately we may never know the true reason for the cancellation

There is a serious campaign going on to get some sort of resolution for Kyle XY. If people are interested in saving the show you can visit kylexy.net, savethetub.com, and savekylexy.com. This show has a very dedicated fan base and a huge international following so there is hope this campaign can work..

Created by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber, the 60-minute supernatural drama series Kyle XY was set in Washington state. Matt Dallas headed the cast as 17-year-old orphan Kyle, designated a "savant" because, although he possessed heightened intelligence, he was completely bereft of such normal human emotions as anger, joy, and love. Adopted by paranormal psychologist Nicole Trager (Marguerite MacIntyre), Kyle came to live with Nicole's family, including husband Stephen (Bruce Thomas) and children Lori (April Matson) and Josh (Jean-Luc Bilodeau). Each episode revealed a bit more about Kyle's unique abilities on a "need-to-know" basis, and also a few tantalizing clues concerning his hitherto mysterious background. There were also hints aplenty that Kyle was not "of this world" -- for example, he was apparently born without a navel (and his real name wasn't Barbara Eden!). Moreover, Kyle's voice-over narration was peppered with Biblical references and hark backs to famous Science Fiction films, further deepening the mystery and heightening the audience's fascination with this most enigmatic of TV heroes. First telecast by cable's ABC Family service on June 26, 2006
