What is Magic the Gathering?
Magic: The Gathering is a collectible card game created mathematics professor richard garfield and introduced in 1993 by wizards of the coast Magic the Gathering, is a TCG (Trading Card Game) or also a CCG (Collectible Card Game). It is played by building a deck of cards, usually 60, and "dueling" with one or more opponents. The object of the game is to defeat your opponents. This can be achieved by lowering their Life Total to zero, which starts at 20, or by causing the opponent to deck out, or "draw" all of their cards from their deck. You draw and play cards on a turn based structure. There are several steps to the game: Untap, Upkeep, Draw, Main Phase 1, Combat Phase, Main Phase 2, End Phase or if a player has more than 7 cards in their hand, Discard Phase. To play a "spell card" you must have the appropriate "mana" or "land" cards on the field. Combat is the most common way to deal out damage to your opponents life total, and it is done by having your "creatures" attack the opponent. There are exceptions to the rules but that is the basic concept. For more details on how to play the game check out: www.magicthegathering.com, and look for the "New to Magic?" navigational link.
