In terms of sales value, tobacco is the leading crop and greenhouse and nursery items are the second most valuable. Ranked by acres planted, soybeans are first and corn is the second leading crop. Cotton was the state's leading crop until the early 1950s and after declining for several years has become an important part of the economy again.
