Through telescopes and in photographs it looks for all the world like a solid ball. But Saturn is one of the gas giants, and is made almost entirely of gas. It's hard for us to imagine so much gas in one place that it can exert an enormous gravity field, but that is the case for Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune. There is almost certainly a rocky core at the center of the gas giants, made up of rocky remnants from their earliest formation and debris falling into them since then. Uranus and Neptune may in fact be more like giant slush balls, since they are subject to extremely low temperatures.

Jupiter is a gas planet made mostly of hydrogen and helium. The outer layer is simply made of gas. As depth increases, so do pressure and temperature. Deeper within the planet the gas gradually transitions into a supercritical fluid, a state of matter that is in between liquid and gas. Even deeper this supercritical fluid transitions into an exotic state of matter known as metallic hydrogen. It is currently unclear if this form of matter behaves as a liquid or a solid.

There is no solid surface on the planet Saturn. Instead the atmospheric gases get denser and thicker as they begin to get closer to the core.

Because there is no surface. Saturn is a gas planet. As you go deeper into it, the planet simply transitions from gas to supercritical fluid to liquid.

What is a description of Saturn's landscape?

Saturn doesn't have a hard surface. In fact there is no surface. Saturn is not mountainous but they have said the moons are. You cant walk on Saturn's surface because it is not solid. Most pictures have shown that Saturn is a rocky planet.

Can you walk on the surface of Saturn?

yes you could, but you could only walk on the rings. Because its a GAS giant you couldn't walk on the planet itself. Still i don't think you could unless they make a new and faster rocket, and a warmer suit. It would take aproximatly about 5 years (if they invent a faster rocket) to get there. the rings are about 150 ft. thick, and 180,000 miles wide. just be ready for a -326 degree journey!
