Best Answer

Selene was the goddess of the Moon, daughter of the titans Hyperion and Theia. However there has been some disagreement as Artemis is also a goddess of the moon. Selene may be the one who actually controls when the moon rises and falls as Apollo causes the sun to rise and set, but Artemis is the one who just represents the moon. a similar situation is Helios - who is the sun, but Apollo represents it. Selene is sometimes protrayed actually sitting on the moon. or actually being the moon it's self, just like how Helios is the actual sun
